Election poll workers are men and women who work at the polling places during Early Voting and on Election Day. Help your community vote and join the Flagler Elections team!

Poll Worker Oath:
I do solemnly swear or affirm that I will perform my duties as a Flagler County Election Official according to law and will endeavor to prevent all fraud, deceit, or abuse in conducting the same, and I will perform my duties faithfully and without favor or prejudice to any political party.
Qualifications to Be a Poll Worker
Section 102.014, Florida Statutes requires that poll workers:
- Attend training before EVERY election
- Have the ability to read and write the English language
- Be at least 18 years of age, and registered to vote in Flagler County
In Flagler County, all poll workers are required to:
- Be willing to work at any assigned precinct in Flagler County
- Have your own transportation
- Have an email address and access to the Internet
- Complete in-person and online training courses
- Arrive at your assigned polling location no later than 6:00 AM on Election Day
- Assist with polling place setup, which includes moving chairs, tables, voting booths, and equipment which weigh up to 30 pounds
- Follow all lawful orders of the Precinct Clerk
- Remain there until dismissed by the Precinct Clerk, once all work has been completed AFTER the closing of the polling place at 7:00 PM
- Be efficient, courteous, and patient with both the public and co-workers
- Remain non-partisan at all times while serving as a poll worker
In Flagler County, a person is NOT eligible to serve as a poll worker under one or more of these conditions:
- A candidate for any office in the election
- A candidate’s treasurer or deputy treasurer
- Immediate family member of a candidate
- Actively involved in the campaign of any candidate with opposition in the election (i.e. campaign manager, etc.)
- Serving in a leadership position with a political committee
- Not a registered voter in Flagler County
- Less than 18 years of age
- Unable to attend mandatory training
- Unable to read and write the English language
You cannot serve as an election poll worker if you are a candidate, a candidate’s treasurer, an immediate family member of a candidate, actively involved in a campaign, OR if you are serving in a leadership position with a political committee.
Active participation in a campaign is a conflict of interest for poll workers who are required to remain nonpartisan and unbiased in their duties to serve our community. Poll Worker Positions
Yes, all election workers are paid in Florida. The pay rate is based on the position you are assigned to work.
Florida Law requires that election workers attend training before each election. Classes include hands-on training with the voting equipment with supplemental online courses. You must have a computer or device with access to the internet to complete the online training courses.
- If you are assigned a position to work on Election Day, but do not report for duty, you will not receive training pay
- Alternates will receive training pay if they are available to work on Election Day
Clerk
The Clerk is in charge of the polling place and is responsible for the performance of all poll workers on Election Day. Clerks are required to pick up election supplies prior to the election and return these supplies to the Elections Office after the polls have closed. New election poll workers start as Inspectors and with the right skills and training, they can advance to the position of Precinct Clerk.
Assistant Clerk
The Assistant Clerk assists in completing necessary forms along with assisting the Clerk in every way possible. The Assistant Clerk also helps voters use the accessible voting equipment.
Book Inspector
The Book Inspector operates the electronic poll book, verifies each voter’s photo and signature ID to determine a person’s eligibility to vote, issues ballots, and answers general questions.
Ballot Box Inspector
The Ballot Box Inspector directs voters to the ballot box, assists when needed, and issues “I Voted” stickers.
Deputy
The Deputy designates the no-solicitation zone with guidance from the Clerk, maintains order outside of the polling place, and assists voters outside.
Alternate
Alternates are assigned by position, attend training, and remain on standby on Election Day. If you are assigned as an alternate for an election, and do not return a call to work, you will not be paid for attendance to the training class or the stand-by rate.

New applicants may be assigned as alternate poll workers. Alternates must be available on Election Day, and could be called upon to work anytime between 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM.
