Why Should I Vote In A Primary?
Did you know this election in August will be the most important election for local offices in Flagler County?
Primary elections typically have a lower turnout, despite the fact that every voter may cast a ballot in these elections. Primary elections are important! All voters, regardless of political party affiliation are eligible to vote for nonpartisan contests. These races are important, several nonpartisan races will be decided in the Primary. Even if you do not declare a party affiliation, you may still vote for the nonpartisan races. As with any election, if you choose not to vote, someone else is making the decision for you.

County Commission Districts and School Board Districts are elected COUNTY-WIDE. All voters in Flagler County may vote for all County Commission and School Board Districts.
City of Palm Coast Council Members are elected CITY-WIDE. All voters in Palm Coast may vote for all Council Member Districts.

County-wide nonpartisan contests with two candidates are always decided in a Primary Election.
All voters are eligible to vote for all nonpartisan contests.
County Commission and School Board districts are voted countywide. You may vote for ALL County Commission and School Board districts in the Primary Election.

Nonpartisan contests with more than two candidates can be decided in the Primary if one candidate receives a majority of the vote (over 50%).
All voters are eligible to vote for School Board. Only City of Palm Coast voters may vote for City Council Members.
County Commission and School Board districts are voted countywide. You may vote for both of ALL County Commission and School Board districts in the Primary Election.
City of Palm Coast districts are voted citywide. You may vote for ALL City Council districts in the Primary Election.

Closed Primary Elections
Florida is a closed Primary state. If you wish to vote for a partisan office in this Primary Election, you must be a registered voter in the party for which the Primary is being held. All registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, may vote in Universal Primary Contests, nonpartisan races and city candidates in a Primary Election.

Party Change Deadline
The party change deadline for the upcoming Primary Election is July 20, 2026. To change your party affiliation to vote in this election, consider using Florida's Online Voter Registration System to make the change. You may also complete the paper Florida Voter Registration Application form for a party change and deliver or mail it to the Elections Office by the deadline: July 20, 2026.

Vote By Mail Information
Any registered voter may choose to Vote-By-Mail. The deadline to request a Vote-By-Mail ballot is August 6, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Vote-by-Mail ballots must be received in the Elections Office no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, August 18, 2026. Many voters in our county prefer to vote by mail for the convenience of voting from home, due to work, travel, transportation, or health reasons. We mail ballots all over the world to overseas citizens and our military service members who are serving overseas. Florida has been a no-excuse absentee (also known as Vote-By-Mail) state for over 20 years. Mail ballots will be sent to all voters who have requested a Vote-By-Mail ballot. In the State of Florida, mail ballots are counted in every election.

Early Voting
Any registered and eligible voter may vote early in this election. Early voting will be held August 8 - August 15, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at five locations in Flagler County.
